Master of Regional & Community Planning Program

MRCP Program Admission Information for Domestic Students

Applications should be submitted to the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning by July 1 to be considered for Fall admission and October 1 to be considered for Spring admission.  A few students are admitted to begin their studies in spring semester; however, this approach usually adds an additional semester to the time necessary to complete the program since many of the required spring semester courses have prerequisite courses that are taught in fall only.  Evaluation of the applicant will not begin until all application materials and fee have been received. We encourage all prospective students to visit us and meet our faculty and current students and see our facilities.

Your application package should contain the following materials:

  1. Completed KSU Graduate School Application Form (http://www.ksu.edu/grad/application/index.htm).

  2. Proof of having a Bachelor's degree (may be noted on transcript).

  3. Two official transcripts of all previous courses and grades at junior colleges, colleges, or universities. Send these directly from the registrar of the college or university to this department to the attention of the Graduate Director. They become part of your file and will not be returned.

  4. A personal letter addressed to the Regional and Community Planning Faculty, stating your academic and professional objectives and your interest in the KSU MRCP program.

  5. Prerequisites for entry into the RCP program include completion of a course in statistics and a course that provides an understanding of the American Governmental System. These two courses may be taken in the first semester of the program if noted as a deficiency in the admission process.

  6. Three reference evaluations from previous professors or employers, relative to your ability to handle graduate level work. The names and addresses of these reference evaluators should be listed on the application form. Copies of the evaluation form may be downloaded from here  (PDF). You should fill out the top portion and then give the form to the evaluator to complete and forward on to the Graduate Director. They become part of your file and will not be returned.

  7. There is a non-refundable application fee of $70.00 US (which includes the department and Graduate School fees).  Applications will not be considered without this fee. There are detailed instructions how to pay this fee online, in step 4 of the online application, with a credit card that is issued by a U.S. financial institution. Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover are accepted. Applicants can pay by check or money order, issued from a U. S. financial institution, payable to the Kansas State University Graduate School.

  8. Submit all application material to the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning, Kansas State University, 302 Seaton Hall, Manhattan, KS 66506.
