MLA Program Admission
Information for International Students
Applications should be
submitted to the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community
Planning by February 1 to be considered for Fall admission and August 1 to
be considered for Spring admission. A few students are admitted to begin
their studies in spring semester; however, this approach usually adds an
additional semester to the time necessary to complete the program since many
of the required spring semester courses have prerequisite courses that are
taught in fall only. Evaluation of the applicant will not begin until all
application materials and fee have been received. We encourage all
prospective students to visit us and meet our faculty and current students
and see our facilities.
Your application package
should contain the following materials:
Proof of having a
Bachelor's degree (may be noted on transcript).
Two official
transcripts of all previous courses and grades at junior colleges,
colleges, or universities. Send these directly from the registrar of the
college or university to this department to the attention of the Graduate
Director. They become part of your file and will not be returned.
A personal letter
addressed to the Landscape Architecture Faculty, stating your academic and
professional objectives and your interest in the KSU MLA program.
A portfolio or
collection of previous design work, landscape plans, sketches, project
photos, samples of academic or professional writing, etc. The collection
of works may be presented with photocopies, diazo prints, or other similar
formats. A portfolio is not mandatory, but encouraged when your previous
academic or professional experience might include such products. The
portfolio will be used in conjunction with the transcripts to determine
what basic professional courses might be required. Please include
postage-paid, self-addressed shipping materials if you would like your
work returned.
Three reference
evaluations from previous professors or employers, relative to your
ability to handle graduate level work. The names and addresses of these
reference evaluators should be listed on the application form. Copies of
the evaluation form may be downloaded from here
(PDF).
You should fill out the top portion and then give the form to the
evaluator to complete and forward on to the Graduate Director. They become
part of your file and will not be returned.
There is
a non-refundable application fee of $80.00 US (which includes the
department and Graduate School fees). Applications will not be considered
without this fee. There are detailed instructions how to pay this fee
online, in step 4 of the online application, with a credit card that is
issued by a U.S.
financial institution. Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover
are accepted. Applicants can pay by check or money order, issued from a
U. S. financial institution, payable to the Kansas State University
Graduate School.
Copy of Passport.
Copy of original
TOEFL score. 600 is the minimum score required for entry into the program.
Complete Affidavit of Financial Support.
