Minor in Community Planning

The Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning offers an undergraduate Minor in Community Planning for those students in allied fields who wish to expand their knowledge of the processes of community planning and development while completing their education at Kansas State University.  The Minor program in Community Planning is designed to encourage or improve the student's professional knowledge of community planning and development issues.  The basic requirements for the Minor in Community Planning are as follows:
 
Core Requirements:  Successful completion of the following planning course with a grade of "C" or better:
 
PLAN 315 Introduction to Planning 3
 
Planning Elective Course Requirements:  Successful completion of 12 credit hours of the following planning courses (unless an external elective option is elected by the student) with grades of "C" or better.  Planning classes that are 800 level and above may not be taken by undergraduate students.

External Elective Option:  The Minor in Community Planning recognizes that many courses offered within Kansas State University are suitable in expanding the knowledge base of the student in community planning.  As such, successful completion of 3 credit hours (if 4 hours are listed for the course, only 3 credit hours will be used toward your minor) from the following list of courses is considered as an acceptable substitute for one of the courses listed above in the planning elective area.  Other acceptable substitutes may be used, upon approval of the Director of the Planning program.

Criteria for Admission and Enrollment Procedures for the Undergraduate Minor in Community Planning  Undergraduate students enrolled at KSU may apply for admission to the Minor program in Community Planning by coming to the departmental office (302 Seaton Hall) and completing enrollment forms one year prior to graduation.
 
Students opting to pursue the Minor in Community Planning will be assigned an academic advisor for the minor program from faculty within the program in Regional and Community Planning, for the purpose of selecting appropriate courses to fit their individual interests and needs.
 
Completion Requirements for the Undergraduate Minor in Community Planning  Successful completion of the Minor program in Community Planning includes the stipulation that courses taken will apply to the Minor if grades of "C" or better are achieved in all 15 hours of course work applied to the minor program, and the student has achieved a cumulative GPA in the minor course work of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Ungraded course work taken for Pass/Fail does not qualify for inclusion in the Minor program.  The Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning will award a "Minor in Community Planning" to those students who successfully complete the minor program in Community Planning, upon graduation from Kansas State University.  The Minor Program Director will monitor progress and notify the Registrar upon completion of all course work leading to the Minor in Community Planning.  The minor must be completed at the same time as the undergraduate degree, to be noted on the student's transcript.
