Graduate Certificate in Community Planning and Development

SUBJECT:        The Regional and Community Planning Program administers a Certificate in Community Planning intended for those students in allied fields who wish to expand their knowledge of the processes of community planning and development while completing their graduate education. (Students admitted to the graduate program in Regional and Community Planning cannot apply for the certificate.)  The intent of the program is to encourage or improve the student’s professional knowledge of community planning and development issues, which in turn may provide a better understanding of their role in community development.

The basic requirements of the program are as follows:

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

Graduate Students

PLAN 715 Planning Principles  3 hours REQUIRED
Regional & Community Planning (PLAN) 12 hours
15 hours

NOTE: Of the 12 hours of elective courses, 3 credit hours of planning-related coursework from another discipline may be used, upon approval of the Regional and Community Planning faculty.  The KSU catalog lists courses which have been accepted in prior years.

Grade Point Average Requirement

For graduate students the coursework to be applied towards the certificate must be completed with a grade point average of 3.0, with no grade lower than a B.

Verification for Employers

The Regional and Community Planning Program will offer verification of the award of the planning certificate to prospective employers.

Enrolling in the Graduate Planning Certificate Program

Students interested in the RCP Certificate in Community Planning should visit the LA/RCP office in Seaton 302 to complete an enrollment form which will allow the tracking of progress.  It is the student’s responsibility to periodically review and update the course list taken for the certificate and to request the 3 credit hour substitute course (if chosen) for use in the certificate program.  The office staff will verify grades achieved prior to the expected date of graduation.  Professor C.A. Keithley or Professor Ray Weisenburger will assist you in choosing courses which satisfy the certificate requirements.

Please complete the application form and bring it to the departmental office in 302 Seaton Hall.  It is not necessary to fill out the entire program record at this time.
